After attending an acrylic workshop here in Winnipeg,  one of the other artists commented on my work and suggested that I enter into the Manitoba Society of Artists Juried Competition.  I sort of forgot about it till about a week ago and decided to enter if there was still time.  I entered two pieces, “Jamaican” and “Shasta Daisy”.  I rec’d a phone call on Friday evening telling me that my “Jamaican” was accepted for entry and that I won an award as well.  The award I won is the W. Cliff Packer Memorial Award which pays homage to Cliff’s varied interests in art with the theme being “for a work of art deserving of merit in the genre tradition”, genre being the term used to describe works of art that deal with informal representation of everyday life, especially attention to work involving the human figure.  This is an absolute honor to receive this award and the award presentation is this evening at the Mennonite Heritage Centre Gallery.  All the pieces in this show will be on display at the gallery from June 29th through till September 4, 2015.  The works being presented here are amazing and the artists are so talented.  Congratulations to everyone who was accepted and to those who are the recipients of an award.
