It has been a while since I posted here as I had knee surgery which really took way more than a year out of my life but the good news is that I'm back, slowly it seems.

Back in the 19th century, the Coble, a type of open traditional boat was developed on the North coast of England. The distinctive shape of the boat - flat bottomed and high-bowed came about to cope with the particular conditions which were prevalent in this area. This boat allowed launching and landing from shallow, sandy beaches. The design contains relics of Norse influence.

These boats had a long working life and had the reputation as dangerous to sail for an inexperienced crew but in the hands of experts could move both quickly and safely.
